alright well im planning on building myself a custom intake for my caddy to get a lil better airflow. I should have about $60-100 to play with. I was thinkin about just leaving the left side of the main intake and building off that with some 3in stainless steel pipes. Im not quite sure what im talkin but u guys got the idea. Anyways..im planning on running that down to the lower right hand size of the engine bay by the r. headlight and droppin a cone on there. If u guys have ANY ideas if that would work or anything u could think up urself..post it up. Heres some picks on what ill be working with.

P.S. Keep in mind that all intake will be gone. Cone will be placed about where i took the 4th pic aka cone placement :)

Sound like that MIGHT work.....Key word "might". A few questions first. When you disassembled all that intake piping, did you have to disconect any wires? How close to the pavement is your cone going to be? Will the cone be inside or outside the engine bay? Last but not least, do you know of anyone who makes an intake kit(i.e. K&N) that you could copy off of?

uh..no wires whatsoever, uhh not close to the pavement at all, cones is inside, dont know of anyone i could copy off of..im just gonna try it myself cause it seems to be cheaper and if i doesnt work out then ill try a kit or something..but i HIGHLY doubt they make one for a cadillac therefore thats why im thinkin custom.

My concern with where the cone was located came from worrying about sucking water.
In that case, get that pipe you were talking about and maybe some 3" silicone hose from NAPA or Home Depot and some hose clamps and have at it!

no it will be away from all water..my engine barely got any water on it from the snow except for in the back from the windshield wipers. couple lil snow mounds that gathered up

Edit: Actually i dont even have to put it there..cause now there will be alot more room with all that plastic intake outta there. So i might even just mount it up in the middle somehow..but ill see like friday when i get paid. Me and chris are gonna work on it..ill get some pics on how it turns out

If you do decide to use that pipe, get some sheet metal to make a bracket or brace of some kind to hold it up. Let us know how it all works out.

We'll find a safe spot where not much water will get to it. My concern is MAF.. I gotta check up on those pics to see if I can spot it out.. we may have a problem with that..

Okay, that pipe circled and arrowed to is where the air gets brought in I'm pretty sure.. My idea is to do this:

Make a funnel sort of thing, and put the cone inside of the funnel, so the air coming into the tube going out of the funnel, goes RIGHT into the cone. I made a sketch of what I'm talking about.

This would also ENSURE that water wouldn't be getting in.

well i took another look at it tonight..i have ALOT of room left over. Im almost POSITIVE that the cone wont have any water whatsoever near it or going into it. I thought about ur idea..but then i thought that water could come through the 2nd section around the cone and it would be just THAT much closer for the cone to just suck it up. But seeing as tho there is gonna be a whole near the headlight..u got cold air coming in and going directly around the cone, so it will have alotta air to play with w/o the water. But like i said..im gonna get the parts say like friday...stick it all together and see how it turns out. Ill probably wind up puttin the cone directly where the air filter is now cause that is a huge amount of room just sittin there waitin to be taken up.

i just about got all the parts i need written down to go over to autozone to pick up. I was alost checkin out some of the Edelbrock throttle bodys..im thinkin about gettin one of those too in the near future and settin that badboy up. Mines in like perfect condition..but that edelbrock performs so much nicer and has a more modern set-up and def. easier to set up an intake on it.

well..i got a new intake for it..i didnt go with the whole tubing and cone at the end. I just went over to Murrays and bought a 6 5/8'' Air Intake..its like mini and looks stupid but it sounds GREAT. I asked the guy what would make it sound better and performance, and he recommended this. So i stuck it on and got 4 more mpg. Plus when i floor it, sounds fckn AWeSOMe. Ill get some pics up in a lil bit..gotta shine it up first :)

You should see if K&N makes a replacement filter, search the size 6 5/8's,I am sure they make one. might add minimal gains, a little dress up too with some color, white shows even the littlest dirt stains.
